Retrofit is the process of improving the comfort, energy, and environmental performance of the UK’s existing housing stock.  High-quality whole home retrofits provide tangible benefits for residents and the local area.  Whole-home retrofit should deliver high energy performance standards as well as wider home improvements to make properties more livable and comfortable for the occupier.

A retrofit assessment is required to accurately assess the energy performance and the fabric condition of the property, thereby helping to identify suitable improvement measures. We’re accredited with Elmhurst Energy to deliver retrofit assessments to the standard defined in BSI PAS2035. A retrofit assessment is likely to be required when any of the following improvement measures for an existing domestic property are being considered:

Insulation, Airtightness, Ventilation, Heating and cooling systems, Renewable technologies, Water heating systems, Efficient lighting, Energy monitoring systems, Using locally generated power that uses zero-carbon technologies

The report provided covers the current energy efficiency of the property, the overall stock condition of the dwelling, the quality of current ventilation and heating systems, and provides details about current occupancy and lifestyle habits which are drivers of property condition and heating costs.

I am registered with TrustMark to deliver high-quality retrofit reports.  Trustmark is the only Government-endorsed standards scheme for trades that operate in and around the home. Developed in 2005 with national government, industry, and consumer protection bodies, its aim is to give consumers confidence in firms to undertake work that is of high quality, is protected, and delivered at agreed costs. The scheme’s operators and registered firms commit to meeting a set of core criteria, which are reviewed and updated annually.

To avoid any confusion regarding the role of the retrofit assessor, some words on the process into which my services fit.  A retrofit assessment for any property must be booked in and organised by a retrofit coordinator, or prospective installer – I do not work directly for the homeowner or property occupier.

20% of UK housing stock was built before 1919 and only 24% has been built since 1980. Clearly then, most of the UK’s housing stock can benefit from one or more treatments to improve its energy efficiency. To meet the UK’s government climate change targets, we must retrofit all homes to an EPC band C standard by 2035, a figure we are currently nowhere near.

Direct Energy Assessments is situated on the outskirts of Cheltenham and it is important I manage my own carbon footprint effectively. Please contact us directly for any Retrofit Assessments across Greater Manchester and the wider surrounding areas.
